Lecture 1: Imbolc: Brighid And The Feast Of Purification An exploration of the history, themes, and Mysteries of the holiday Imbolc (February 1st), and Brighid, Celtic goddess, Christian Saint, and the principle figure of Imbolc. Afterwards, time permitting, we will have a discussion of how Imbolc can be celebrated in the current context of our lives while still holding to its traditional spirit. (2 hours) Lecture 2: Dúile: An ancient view of the Elements An examination of the Celtic and Pan-Indo-European understanding of the elements (Sky, Sun, Moon, Land, Stone, Wind, etc.) and primordial sacrifice as the source of the created universe in Indo-European mythologies. We will also examine the partial reversal of this process in the creation of humanity. The Celtic concept of Dúile will be elaborated in relation to this view of creation, followed by a group discussion on its applicability to prayer, meditation, and healing. (2 hours) A workshop on approaching the elements through meditation and visualization. Attendance at "Dúile: An ancient view of the Elements" and some previous experience with some form of active visualization or meditation process is strongly recommended. |
