Helmut

A master blacksmith of more than 30 years experience and training, I did my apprenticeship under a Mastersmith of more than 65 years of experience. He started his apprenticeship in Germany in 1908. I have been making ritual tools and studying smithing as a path for most of that time. I have been initiated into smithing ways in both European and African traditions. Metal magic and creation magic has been my field of study with the intent of formulating a working connection between the physical properties of the metal and its magical properties. I also have taught workshops on Metal magic, the Smith’s path and Creation magic. I am presently writing a book recording the oral and compiling the written knowledge of the Smith’s beliefs and magical knowledge.

Panel Discussion:

Consider, a student of the old ways acquires or inherits a portion of old knowledge that in itself and original use may be of benefit, but has been corrupted to be able to do great harm and it is most likely only he has the that portion of the old knowledge.
Question, does that student have the responsibility/duty/right to; preserve and pass on the knowledge complete, edit the knowledge leaving only the original material, or destroy it completely so it can never be duplicated? This panel discussion is lead by Helmut but will involve a number of other elders that will be listed shortly.
