Marija Kuncaitis - Lectures

Introduction to Baltic Paganism:

Lithuania, on the shores of the Baltic Sea, was the last pagan kingdom in Europe, accepting Christianity in the late 14thC. Much of the folktales, mythology, songs and traditions have survived virtually intact til the 20thC. We will take a brief look at the mythology, pantheon and Folkloric Festival Calendar of the Balts. Emphasis will be placed on the major figures of the Patheon such as Perkunas the Thunderer, Dievas the Sky Father, Laima Goddess of Fate and Saule the Sun Goddess. Part of the workshop will consist of audience participation in singing some of the ancient "dainas" (folksongs). Handouts will be provided.

Modern Druidry:

A look at what Modern Druidry is, done from the perspective of a member of OBOD (Order of Bards Ovates and Druids). Emphasis will be placed on the Bardic Arts and how Modern Druids incorporate this important element of Celtic Tradition into their practices. Audience participation will be welcomed as there will be some exercises.
