Niagara Voodo Temple

Bio:

The Niagara Voodoo Shrine, is located in the heart of the historic free slave quarter of St. Catharines, Ontario, where the legendary Underground Railroad ended. Harriet Tubman brought hundreds of freedom seekers to St. Catharines, many were renowned bush doctors, conjurers and like Harriet Tubman herself, diviners. The Niagara Voodoo Shrine has been sharing for many years the beautiful traditions of this Carolinian forest and swamp magik that inspires change and transformation, with the help of the spirits and the animals of the marsh.

North American Voodoo Tradition-Now you can learn the useful information for those times that you really wish you practiced voodoo!

The talk will include a brief history of what Voodoo is, its roots and how it came to North America. Voodoo is a religion that is derived from African polytheism and ancestor worship and is practiced around the world but is most prominent in Haiti and New Orleans. It involves magic and communication with ancestors. It originated from West Africa and, to this day, over 30 million West Africans still practice voodoo. Through the movies, superstitions and folklore, people have begun to associate 'voodoo' with voodoo dolls and zombies. This presentation will enlighten us and explain the true meanings behind voodoo.
